Confessions of an Emotional Eater

Have you ever been stressed and just want your favorite food?  For me, it’s sweets.  For others, it might be something salty.  And if you go even further, it might be an adult beverage.  Here’s my question to you…

When you get stressed, what do you do?

Do you eat poorly? Or do you go take care of yourself?

In the past, I’ve eaten poorly. When it was bad, it was really bad.  Anything used to be able to set me off.  It could be meetings all day at work, not being productive at all because of the ebb and flow of life or even something as simple as the wind blowing my hair the wrong way.

What to do to be better?

Have a better plan.  When I get like this now, I keep my brain active, practice self-care or get in some movement. Make sure you have a list of things to do in order to take your mind off the stress. And I don’t get too down on myself if I slip up and have a treat.  Why?  Because it’s all about balance!

What’s the moral of the story?

No matter how stressed you get, no matter how much life gets you down, always remember that you are on a journey and there will be peaks and valleys.  Stick to your plan as much as possible but don’t beat yourself up if you decide to have a treat once in a while.  You can have your cake and eat it too…just watch out for how big your slice is.
