When we’re kids, we use or imagination all the time. We dream of fairies and giants living in fields of green. Or trucks and jet engines that go really fast. Books become our playground and take us to other, far off worlds. But as we get older, our imagination disappears and we don’t use it as much. I want you to take back your imagination. Ask yourself “What’s my imagination telling me?”
As kids, our parents and teachers allow us to ask ourselves this question. It usually involves something we want to be when we grow up. Some say a police officer or fireman, astronaut or scientists, or even a dancer. We should let our imagination run wild and people should encourage us keep dreaming. As teenagers, that encouragement turns to real, raw actions and those can scare us. We’re asked about college or actual careers and what we want to do with the rest of our lives. At this stage, who the F knows! But there’s an inkling in the back of our mind asking us “What’s my imagination telling me?” Instead of listening to the answers, we’re pushed toward a path of education and work.
Fast forward to adulthood. How often do you use your imagination? I bet hardly ever. It’s frowned upon to use it or even dream big. Why? Because we have to work, make money, and support our families. Yes, we have to work but that doesn’t mean we have to push our imagination to the back burner. I say we should keep using it!
When I asked myself what my imagination was telling me, I got flashes of the future. I forced me to really start dreaming. My husband thought I was crazy. But today, as I update this post, those dreams I had are now a reality. My husband thought I was crazy at the time, but now he gets it. It took him years, but now he encourages my imagination. But my big, crazy dreams have allowed me to build a life I’m starting to love.
So I challenge you to start listening to your imagination. Allow it to mold and shape your life and guide you on the path to a better life, whatever that may be. Make your dreams a reality and share your BIGGEST dream. You’ve got the dream so make it happen!
