The Rollercoaster Week (And Why the Downs Aren’t Always Bad)

This past week has been… a lot.

Highs that made me feel like I was on top of the world. Lows that made me question everything. Back and forth, up and down, like I was strapped into a rollercoaster I didn’t buy a ticket for. Sound familiar?

In the midst of all the chaos, I realized the downs aren’t always bad. In fact, sometimes they’re exactly what we need. Because every “no” is just a message that wasn’t meant for us. Every setback can be a valuable lesson, and every disappointment can serve as a redirection. So, when you start looking at the downs differently? The whole ride gets a little easier… and more fun!

This Week’s Ups and Downs

I’m not going to pretend this past week was smooth. It wasn’t.

There were wins—big ones. Conversations that went better than expected. Progress on projects I’ve been working on. Moments where I felt like, “Yes, this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

But there were also losses. Rejections. Things that didn’t go the way I planned. Moments where I felt like, “Why is this so hard? Am I doing something wrong?”

It would’ve been easy to spiral. To focus on what went wrong and let the downs overshadow the ups. But instead, I paused. I took a breath. And I asked myself: What if this isn’t a setback? What if it’s just information?

The Downs Are Simply Messages

Here’s the truth you NEED to hear: Not everything is meant for you.

That opportunity that didn’t work out? Maybe it wasn’t the right fit. That person who said no? Maybe they weren’t your person. That thing that fell through? Maybe it was clearing space for something better.

When something doesn’t go your way, it’s not always a failure. Sometimes it’s just the Universe saying, “Not this. Something else.”

And that’s okay. Because chasing things that aren’t meant for you is exhausting. Getting told “no” early saves you time, energy, and heartache down the road.

Remember, the downs aren’t rejections, they’re redirections.

3 Perspective Shifts to Help You Stay Positive When on the Rollercoaster

If you’ve been on your own rollercoaster recently, here are three ways to reframe the downs so they don’t knock you off course.

1. Ask: “What is this teaching me?”

When something doesn’t go your way, your brain wants to spiral. It wants to tell you that you failed, that you’re not good enough, that you should just give up.

But what if you asked a different question instead? “What is this teaching me?”

Maybe it’s teaching you patience. Or showing you what you don’t want. Possibly revealing a gap in your process, your messaging, or your strategy.

Every setback has something to teach you—if you’re willing to look for it. So stop seeing the downs as failures and start seeing them as lessons. What can you learn from this? What can you do differently next time?

When you approach setbacks with curiosity instead of defeat, they lose their power over you.

2. Remind Yourself: “This isn’t for me, and that’s okay.”

Not every opportunity is your opportunity. Every door is not supposed to open for you. Every “no” is not a personal attack.

Sometimes, things don’t work out because they weren’t supposed to. And that’s not a bad thing. That’s the Universe doing you a favor.

So stop taking every rejection personally. Start trusting that the right things will align and the wrong things will fall away.

If something didn’t work out, it wasn’t meant for you. And that means something better is.

3. Celebrate the Ups (Even When the Downs Feel Louder)

Here’s the thing about rollercoasters: The downs feel intense. They feel loud. They demand your attention.

But the ups? They’re there too. And they matter just as much. This week, I had some major wins. But I almost let the losses overshadow them. I almost let the hard moments erase the good ones. Don’t do that.

Instead, make space to celebrate the wins, even when the week feels heavy. Write them down. Say them out loud. Let yourself feel good about what went right.

The downs don’t have to cancel out the ups. Both can exist at the same time.

You’re Not Failing. You’re Just on the Ride.

If you’ve been feeling like your life has been one big rollercoaster recently (or this month, or this season)—you’re not alone.

Life is full of ups and downs. Business is full of wins and losses. That’s just how it goes. But here’s what I want you to remember: The downs don’t mean you’re failing. They just mean you’re moving.

If you’re trying, you’re doing something right. Putting yourself out there means you’re showing up. And those risks you’re taking mean you’re doing something outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes, that means things won’t go perfectly. But you’re still here. You’re still going. You’re still showing up.

I promise you, that matters more than any single “no” or setback or bad week.

Keep Going

Whatever you’re going through right now—whether it’s a high, a low, or somewhere in between—keep going.

The ups are coming. The lessons are happening. The right things are aligning. And you’re exactly where you need to be. Even if it doesn’t feel like it yet.
