Ever heard of thrifting? It’s when you shop second hand and it’s great way to help your fashion-game and your wallet. Clothes can make up a big portion of where we spend money, especially women. According to a study I ready a few years ago, done by the University of Michigan, parents can spend anywhere from $300 to over $1000 per year for their children’s clothing. This study didn’t even include how much parents spend on themselves. Completely eye opening.
How can you reduce your spending and start thrifting?
Here are a few ways to help you start.
1. Be more conscious about where you spend your money. Instead of going to the high-priced retailers, go thrifting! Head to your local Salvation Army or Goodwill. You can find some amazing pieces and brands you love for a lot less. Just remember to wash everything before you wear anything.
2. Do a clothing exchange. – I basically grew up on hand-me-downs. Almost all my clothes came from older cousins. I never cared because I was dressed. Even though I was picky but exchanging clothes with others gives the pieces new life.
3. Shop online. – Believe it or not, some of the best retailers are starting the process of thrifting. One of favorite online stores is undoubtedly ThredUp. The prices are surprisingly low, they have brands you love, and in some cases, up to 90% off.
So yes, you and your family can look great without spending a fortune. And think of how much better you’ll feel when you find that amazing leather jacket while you were thrifting and only paid half the cost! Shopping or swapping clothes is just one way to make your wallet feel financially healthy. Now, tell me, what’s the best item you’ve purchased at a discounted price?
