National Splurge Day is Here!

UDPATED 03/10/2025

I didn’t even know this semi-fake holiday existed. Thank God for the National Day Calendar! Now that I know about it, I’m in love and it might not be for the reasons you’re thinking.

When you think of word splurge, what comes to mind? Maybe it’s spending beyond your means or even treating yourself to something you’ve been saving up for. In reality, this holiday isn’t intended to be about spending tons of money. If that’s what you want to do, today, go for it! The intention behind National Splurge Day is to take care of YOU and today, I’m giving you permission to treat yourself.

Treating yourself sounds like a luxury, but it’s not. It’s about taking care of yourself a little more than you normally would. And trust me, it’s hard AF! I am reminded by my therapist every few weeks that I need to care for myself better. But taking care of yourself and treating yourself are two very different things.

Taking care of yourself is making sure you eat well, get a bit of exercise in, and going to bed at a normal hour.

Treating yourself is doing something to take care of yourself that you normally wouldn’t do.

So if you are in desperate need of a massage, get it on the schedule. Or if you’re craving a new pair of jeans, go get ’em! For me, it’s always about something I love but can’t have a lot of-ice cream. Yes, it’s a simple dessert that I love more than anything, but it needs to have the right ingredients. Forbidden Chocolate ice cream from Friendly’s, caramel and chocolate sauce, and some peanut butter cups thrown into the mix.

In all seriousness, I want you to consider celebrating this holiday. Many of us don’t care for ourselves enough due to a lack of time, money, or because we put others ahead of ourselves. Today, that stops, even for just a moment. Think about something you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t. What is it? If it’s something you can do today, DO IT! If it’s something that you can’t do today but can plan for it to happen, MAKE THAT PLAN! Regardless, today is for YOU so go out and splurge on yourself.
