Lost, But Finding Yourself
Have you ever felt lost? I definitely have! Over the course of my life, I’ve realized just how much effort it takes when start finding yourself. When I first started this journey, I realized how crazy things are in life. Even though most of my time was spent working or with friends, I still felt alone. Let me explain.
I grew up surrounded by people and I always had a lot of friends around me. My circle may have seemed small, but it was there all through high school and college. In adulthood, I worked more and made friends. We’d make plans, hang out on the weekends, and life was good. Until it wasn’t. Most of my friends had children, yet I didn’t. And because of that difference, I was left out. Because I didn’t have kids, my friends didn’t think I wanted to attend their kids’ birthdays or dance recitals. Instead of asking, they just assumed. Needless to say, many of those people are no longer in my circle.
Finding yourself takes ups and downs like this. Meeting friends and saying goodbye to them years later is just one example. Part of my journey was also learning own to own my weirdness and just run with it. And running a business has actually helped me do that even more. As I continue to build and grow, I’m working toward an ultimate goal of freedom. Part of this work keeps me on the down swing of living because this stage is lonely. It’s just me and my business. But where do relationships fit in? Sadly, it barely does.
My circle has shrunk tremendously, but I’m ok with this. When I think about it, the people that are still with me are my truest supporters. They are part of my tribe and will always have a seat at my table. Coming to know this has been an up swing on my journey toward finding myself.
If you’re still on that journey, here’s what you need to do. Take a breath and do some brainstorming. While you might feel lost right now, this work will help show you that you’re not. When you do your brain dump I want you to focus on your wants, goals, dreams, and all the outlandish things you want. Not what others want for you and certainly not what you think you want because others have said something. We’re talking about YOU, here. Finding yourself may seem like a very long road, but I promise it will all be worth it!
