Freedom

I’m was born and raised in the United States. The word “freedom” used to mean something for people coming here. But as I’ve grown up, I’ve learned that freedom means something to people living here too.

After working in corporate since the day I graduated college, I quickly learned that freedom was not based on “9-5” logic. Instead, it was about truly living a life that you design. If you’re not from my country, you’ll notice how very different it is. In the United States, people work 40+ hours each week paying to have someone else watch their children and therefore, their time with their family is limited. This lifestyle was not for me and I knew it early on. To me, this is not freedom.

What does freedom mean to me?

I believe freedom should be about being able to live your life to the fullest and making choices instead of decisions. It should be about having all the time you want to do whatever makes your heart happy. And that includes working!

I started my journey toward becoming an entrepreneur because I wanted to be able to live and feel truly free. Granted, becoming an entrepreneur has not been easy. Finding my “tribe” has been the hardest part. But once I found them, it was like a light opened at the end. of the tunnel. Seeing how other business owners do it inspired me to keep following my path of growth and learning. Without those two pieces, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

How your “why” affects your freedom

One of the first things I did when I decided to start down this path was set my intentions. Why did I start this journey? Why am I doing this? I thought about all the reasons I did not follow the normal path to freedom and wrote those reasons down. Once they were on paper, it became real. Your why is the reason you are doing what you’re doing. It’s why you choose to make a better life for yourself.

My original “why” consisted of the following:
– I want to live debt free.
– I want to travel without limits.
– I want to raise healthy children and not have someone else raise them for me.
– I want to be able to make my own hours.
– I want to be able to stay inside when it’s cold and dark outside.
– I want to be able dye my hair any color I want.
– I want to wake up without an alarm clock.
– I want to have breakfast with my husband every morning.
– I want to allow my creativity. to soar.
– I want to have an office that goes beyond four walls.

Yes, these are wants. But your wants are the desires that make. up your why. Much of what I have written still holds true today [updated December 27, 2024]. But I will tell you, my list of wants continues to grow. I did not find my passion for freedom overnight. And your may not find yours that quickly either.
