Do you need to practice personal development?
It’s something I hear all the time in my line of work – you need to practice personal development. When. I first wrote this blog, I hadn’t really thought a lot about it. I understand that it was a way to help you grow – personally and professionally, inside and out, etc. And after years of practicing it, I’m here to remind you. that it is an absolute MUST!
What actually is personal development?
The easy answer is, it’s any action you take to work. on improving your current state.
Think of your favorite sport. I love soccer and in order. to get better at whatever position I play, I need to practice. So I read books on being an amazing goalkeeper (even though I’m less than 5′). I watch all the YouTube videos I can find that showcase tips and tricks for jumping, diving, using. my body and hands appropriately… You get the idea.
The same methodology applies to just about anything in life. You’re continuously working on improving yourself through implementation after reading, watching or listening to something. You’re basically educating yourself and then putting into practice what you learned.
How do you start to practice personal development?
Simple! Pick an area of your life that you want to improve and the gain access to resources, either online, in media or through mentors. When I first started, I needed to improve my mindset. I devoured anything I could find about positive thinking, relieving stress and anxiety and seeing the good the Universe has to offer.
If you want to change your habits or start a journey toward getting healthy or be a better business owner, you can do that! Just pick ONE area of life and start.
Where do I find the resources?
Zig Ziglar is someone I followed in the beginning. He is truly one of the greats when it comes to personal development. While he is no longer in physical form, his spirit lives on. His words helped me simplify things. and understand just how important personal development is. Zig is definitely not the only person out there in the personal development space out there so find one that you vibe with and follow them! Listen. to their podcasts, read their blogs, start to watch them on YouTube… Choose the medium that works for you.
For me, it was books. I love to read and when I read these types of books, I highlight and take notes in the margins for me to refer to. I have a running list on Amazon of all my recommended reads and continuously add to it. The are definitely a few personal development books on there.
Another favorite of mine includes podcasts. There’s so many out there, you’ll never get bored. Especially with different hosts and different topics depending on the show. If you’re not sure what show to start with, search personal development in the podcast app you use and just pick one. Try to listen to at least one every day to get your daily dose of practice.
So, do you want to practice personal development?
Let me know in the comments! What podcast. or book are you loving right now? I’d love to hear about your journey and support. you along the way.
