I was Healthier When…

UPDATED 02/24/2025

Have you ever said this statement before: “I was healthier when…”. I think about this a lot and I always come up with a variety of reasons to finish the sentence.

I was healthier when I worked closer to home.

It doesn’t sound like the most profound statement, but it is true for me and for many others. I’ve noticed this for myself in the past few years that distance does have an impact. It has taken a toll on a lot of things in my life, but especially my weight. When I worked closer to home I had more time to prep meals, get in a good workout, and still had time to spend with my family. Working a corporate job wasn’t what I necessarily dreamed of for my life. But that’s where I am and if I wanted to be healthy, only I can decide to do that.

It took me a few years but I finally decided to make a change. I made some changes and decied to find oppotunities closer to home. This might sound like huge changes, but it wasn’t for me. They needed to be made for my family, my sanity, and for my health. I can promise you this, I’m happier for it. Fitness is a daily activity, meal prepping on Sundays is fun, and I get more time with my family.

Here’s my challenge to you. Do some brainstorming and finish this statement:

I was healthier when __________.

Grab a journal and document what comes up for you. It might be work, like it was for me, or a lack of creativity. Maybe your accountability or business partner moved away or you feel like you’re at your lowest and want to give up. Keep brainstorming at least once a week until you’ve found your reason. Then, make a plan and get back to you.
